Central Iowa Missions Curriculum

Courses Offered in this Series

by Art Wallis

  1. Basic Preaching – Preparing and Delivering Sermons
  2. Intermediate Preaching – Expository, Evangelistic, and other types of sermons;  plus good miscellaneous advice for Preachers.
  3. Advanced Preaching – Dissecting sermons by Jesus, Peter, & Paul; looking at “styles” of preaching. How did they preach?
  4. Textual Analysis in Advanced Preaching – Learning some very basic Koine Greek (original New Testament language), use of Vine’s Expository Dictionary, Strong’s Analytical Concordance, Commentary usage, and some basic Biblical Doctrines.
  5. Extra Advanced Preaching – We will be building on the skills that we have learned in earlier classes; i.e. use of Vine’s Expository Dictionary (word studies), constructing sermon outlines, use of commentaries, Bible dictionaries, and other Bible research helps. Lord willing, in each of the times that we meet in this class this quarter, we will be doing some in depth study of some basic Bible doctrines.  I hope that we will be able to take some time in class to actually work, as a group, on putting together some sort of “rough” general outline of the materials from class, so it will be easy for you to finish working it up into a sermon.
  6. Practical Ministries – Weddings, funerals, campus ministry, youth ministry, Christian writing, hospital visitation, Christian camping, Prison Ministry, etc.
  7. Personal Evangelism – We have both a 4 and/or 13 lesson series.
  8. Hermeneutics – The science of the study of the interpretation (of Scripture).
  9. Going On Unto Perfection – Preparing to go into full-time or part-time preaching.
  10. Super Advanced Ministry (Graduate Level) – All previous lessons applied.
  11. Preacher Training Camp

Courses #1 thru #5 are offered in this order due to the increasing complexity of the course materials. Practical Ministries and Personal Evangelism are “stand alone” classes that could be offered at any time, but in order to keep the flow of teaching as smooth as possible, we are offering them in this order.

It is our hope that you will want to continue in these classes until the completion of all 10 courses of study.

These courses and class schedules are subject to final approval by the Grand View elders.

The details of what we actually did in classes are found in the syllabus in the first attachment. This was more loosely organized than any of the other levels. This level combined all of the other levels of preaching together and the men had to apply all they have learned in the previous 9 levels of preaching classes in order to make this work. The final result was holding a Gospel Meeting based on the original Greek text that was handed out the first week of class.  -Art
