The Power Of One
Most people understand a basic investment principle: the power of compounding, which simply is the idea of how over a long period of time your money feeds on itself, earning additional dollars which can grow. For the investor, the principle is simple, as most basic principles are: You need to start today, right now, this second, to save in a prudent way and let the magic of time and compounding do the heavy lifting.
However, those same principles apply in the Lord’s work. You start today, right now, to reach out to the lost, and to pray about and work to reach lost souls, and you let the power of God’s word work in their lives as it has in your life, and you trust the Lord to do the heavy lifting.
The plans for Family and Friends Day are built on the idea of reaching out to the lost, in particular to those whom we know either as family or as friends.
We have encouraged each member or family to build a list of the Ten Most Wanted, and then to prepare invitations for each person listed. Yet, we realize for some this might seem difficult. We do not want anyone to be discouraged by such a goal.
There truly is power in inviting one family or one person to our Family and Friends Day. We must all know one person or one family whom we would like to invite to join us on this special day. We realize that an invitation does not mean all will respond, but at least each one of us will have made an effort to reach out to someone.
The power of one. I know a woman who had made eleven visits to the home of another woman who was contacted during a campaign effort and who had agreed to a home Bible study. Eleven times she went to keep scheduled appointments, but each time the woman who was visited had some excuse not to keep the appointment. One more visit, the twelfth. The woman finally agreed to a study. You know the rest. Eventually she was baptized, as were two other members of her family.
There is power in one. Begin now, if you have not done so, to list one person or one family whom you want to invite to Family and Friends Day, and get an invitation and address it. Perhaps you can add one more to the list and prepare two invitations. There is power in compounding. There is power in compounding the number of invitations for this special day.
Yes, we will have a guest speaker who will challenge us and encourage us to “live by faith,†and we will worship God in spirit and in truth, and we will have an opportunity for a great fellowship meal. We can “compound†the blessings of this day through the power of one.

Prayer Requests
It is with deepest sympathy that we announce that Willetta Stafford passed away last Wednesday. The visitation will be this Wednesday, April 11th from 6 to 8 pm, and the funeral will be on Thursday at Hamilton Funeral Home on Lyons.
Marjory Nearhoof would like to thank everyone for the prayers, the cards, the phone calls and the food during her recent illness.
Prayer request from Karen Hardy: I would like to have prayers of the church for my great nephew, Carter Dunnell, who was born March 31 in York, NE. Carter was immediately transferred to a hospital in Lincoln with pneumothorax, or collapsed lung. He was again transferred to Omaha. Doctors there believe he has a hole in his lung, a hole in his heart and a stenosis of one of the arteries in his heart. On Thursday, Carter seemed to be stabilizing for the first time since birth. Thanks for all the prayers and concern. We know they are working by the progress Carter is making. —Karen
Please continue to pray for Mitch & Jo Mort and their kids, following the house fire that occurred last Monday. Although no one was hurt, the garage was destroyed, and there was some damage to the kitchen, and there was smoke damage in the rest of the house. Their immediate needs are being met, but we are not yet aware of their long-term needs, other than prayer!

News & Notes
There is a sign-up list to help provide meals for Linda Kaiser, who had foot surgery on Wednesday. Please remember the special food needs Linda has, Linda needs sugar free, low-carb and lactose-free meals. But lets not forget Kelly, his special needs are to NOT eat sugar free, low-carb meals and he loves the milk and cheese. A sign up list is posted in the fellowship hall. If you have any questions, please call Teresa Mazak.
Golf update from Joe Breton: I would like to start the fellowship golfing 4-29-07, so I would ask that anyone who would like to golf to contact me verbally at church, cell phone 577-9501, or E-mail (Joe@irsims.com) one week prior to going (exceptions are accepted). I would like to get tee times at Grandview for the first time out. I will not be able to attend this premier outing, but I want everyone to know that this is for all members and guest. This is not a male only activity, that question was asked several times. I would also like to let everyone know that it is ok to bring the kid; we had the young Mr. Ross Thompson at an event last year and he did a great job of keeping score for his dad, Orin and I (there will never be an audit of that card). I would like to keep this informal, so you can pick your 4 some or, just let it happen when you get to the course. Would also like to tee off at approximately 1:00 PM depending on the course, which should allow us to finish near 4:30 PM, in time to get a snack, (verify the score of any elder attending) and clean up before evening services. Please mark you calendars for April 29, May 27, June 24, July 29, Aug 26, Sep 30, and weather pending for the rest of the season. For the record I do not golf in the rain, cold, or the extreme hot. —Joe
