The elders and preachers have been meeting to discuss how we could better reach out to the community, fulfilling our call to sow the Word of God to those around us.

We are considering different ways to continue to accomplish this goal here at Grandview, and as these ideas take better shape, we will share them with you.

There is one idea that has emerged from these discussions that we want to try for a period of time, beginning in June 2010.

We want to explore the potential of radio as a way to reach into our community and to use prime time at WHO Radio to promote Grandview and to invite members of the community to meet us and to join us to worship God.

We want to test this approach for a three month period, and then evaluate the response.

We have used radio in the past, and we have members here at Grandview who responded to that programming.

As you know, we have had a number of other outreach programs in the past. One of the most recent outreach programs was House-To-House/Heart-To-Heart. This was a direct mailing of good, spiritual material into 7500 homes in Des Moines and Altoona. We had only one really positive response to this effort over an almost two year period.

By contrast, an ad on WHO Radio will reach a far greater number of homes, and although the advertisement will be a one minute ad, we know that a good radio ad may have a greater impact than a direct mailing piece.

This is not a “home-made” advertisement. We have produced an ad with the help of the professional staff at WHO and our plan is to place the ad on the most popular programming time.

To accomplish this purpose, we need your help. The cost to advertise for three months on WHO is $3000, and we have not included this outreach program in our budget for 2010.

This is an expense outside of our normal program of work at Grandview, and so we are asking you to help us in this effort.

The elders have committed jointly to giving $1,000.00 from their own personal resources for this effort.

We challenge you to consider giving a special one-time contribution, beyond your normal contribution,to pay for this ad. If you have questions, please talk with one of the elders.

As we prepare to reach out to people in the community in this way, we must each be prepared to respond to any opportunity to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” (1 Peter 3:15)

Please consider our challenge, and pray for the success of this effort.

We thank you for your kind attention.  And now we would like for you to hear the ad that we have prepared.
